Head of Football Development looks back at busy start to the year

This year, we have had over 230 boys and girls attend football practice. It has been a very busy start to the year with 26 fixtures been played so far. These have been in national cup games (ISFA) and also in the Stockport Schools league and cup competitions. This is an increase already on last year which is fantastic as it is providing more opportunities for both boys and girls to play football in the first term.

Disappointment in the U18s and U15s ISFA Cup fixtures. Two very close games in which we came off on the wrong side of a penalty shootout. However, the U15s have progressed through to the 2nd round of the ISFA Shield. Our U18s play in the first round of the U18 ISFA trophy against Oswestry this week and we are looking to get a positive result.

Performances on the football pitch have been promising. The two things that I have asked of the students before every game have been executed, work rate and a positive attitude. One thing I would like from all the boys and girls who represent school is to be more vocal and confident on the pitch.
Participation numbers are extremely high for both boys and girl’s football this year, and I hope that this will continue throughout the year.

There have been a few standout results this year which have been fully deserved.

U15s beat Cheadle Hulme school in the first round of the Stockport Schools Cup.

U16s beat Laurus Cheadle Hulme in the first round of the Stockport Schools Cup.

U15s beat Wolverhampton GS in the 1st round of the ISFA Shield.

This year we have entered ourselves into the Stockport Schools Cup and League. This is a fantastic opportunity for boys from 1st year to 5th year to play competitive fixtures during the first term, something that hasn’t happened before. We are running a senior gym programme Mondays after school which has been well attended. Mr Yates has been taking a handful of our goalkeepers and delivering specialist goalkeeper sessions. As well as that, there is a finishing session for the 5th year and 6th form boys only to further develop their footballing skills.

Message to parents:

Reinforce the message of working the hardest and having a positive attitude when stepping foot onto the football pitch. To also get as many boys and girls playing football outside of school as much as they can.
