As part of his Diploma in Sporting Excellence - which he is completing alongside his A-levels - Upper Sixth swimmer Ben Foster took part in a camp in Dubai.

The camp is run by Swim England, who invite students to do the diploma based on aquatic performance, and is split in to the practical element (18-20 hours of weekly training which he does with his swim club Stockport Metro) and the theory element (delivered through regional workshops, online learning, progress review visits from mentors and an offshore training camp and competition).

Ben competed as part of team England DiSE in the Middle East Aquatic Open Championships in the 400m individual medley, the 1,500m freestyle and the 200 breaststroke – in which he reached the B final. He was also part of the team that won ‘Best Club’.

The diploma covers a range of topics including technical and tactical skills, physical capability, nutrition, psychology, lifestyle, career, communication, health and safety plus culture, values and behaviour and Ben is hoping to be at full fitness when he swims the 400m individual medley at the British Championships in London in April.
