Match Report
Stockport Grammar School 1st XI vs  Sandbach School
On: Saturday, 08 Feb 2020
Venue: at Home

Stockport hosted Sandbach on Saturday in cold and bitter weather. We quickly saw the potential to nick the ball from their pass-happy defence. Thanks to some organised pressure we were able to create frequent chances that unfortunately were all unsuccessful. We were on top however they were able to score before we could yo make it 1-0. Their second goal came soon after thanks to a goalkeeping error that was quickly pounced upon by their man. The metaphorical nail in the coffin came in the form of a third Sandbach goal. A weaving run and a pass in the box to a man who sent it to the top corner confirming Stockport's fate. Despite a fairly even first half, we found ourselves 3-0 down. The second half saw a dominant Stockport once again struggle to score and that left a Sandbach side who seemed resigned to defending with the odd break forward feeling smug. With around 25 minutes to go, Stockport had a man sent off but that only seemed to energise us more. Walmisley twisted and turned his way into the penalty are before being brought down and the referee pointed to the spot. Unfortunately, the keeper saved it but less than five minutes later, a freekick was won on the edge of the box. Sam Shilton sprinted from his defensive position, seeing the opportunity to unleash another ripper. Having already scored off a freekick this season, expectations were high and he delivered, all be it straight at the keeper and the ball basically went through him. But hey, doesn't matter how you score them as long as they go in, an approach that the whole team may benefit from on occasion. The final score was 3-1, well done to Sameer Javid on his man of the match performance.
