Match Report
Stockport Grammar School 1st XI vs  Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
On: Saturday, 18 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

The first Xi played Altrincham Grammar away on a bitterly cold Saturday the 18th of January 2020. We started the first half well, creating early opportunities as they sat off and we began to dominate. They tried to play out from the back at every opportunity but the relentless running of our attack meant that they never succeeded. Eventually our efforts were rewarded as Sameer Javid nutmegged their right back before playing through Dan Stevenson who put it across goal and it was put in the back of their net by Harry Flaherty. They bounced back well by hitting the bar with a shot from outside the box and the first half came to a close.

The second half started in the same way the first had gone, utter Stockport domination. Walmisley picked up the ball 50 yards from goal on the right wing and dribbled past about 5 players into the box before being fouled - penalty to Stockport. Chester steps up to take it and buries it in the roof of the net making it 2-0 Stockport. Walmisley then scored a goal of his own with another good run giving him a 1 on 1 opportunity that he didn't pass up, 3-0 Stockport. Walmisley then once again darted through the Altrincham defence as they had no answer to his pace and he was fouled in the box by the goalkeeper. He stepped up himself this time and his penalty rolled along the floor into the net as the keeper went the wrong way. Stockport had lots more chances but failed to make the score more than 4-0. Altrincham had the odd chance here and there before Stockport gifted them a penalty which their striker powerfully struck into the top corner to make it 4-1. Sarcastic shouts of 'the comebacks on boys' could be heard but both teams knew the game was over as Stockport restarted the game. The ref blew the final whistle about five minutes after and Stockport were victorious. Everyone worked really hard all game and no one had a bad game- on to the next one we go.
